HOSP 403 - Hospitality/Tourism & Community Development

Description
In this course, students will learn how to use tourism as a tool for economic development. Students will gain an understanding of the impacts tourism has on a community’s sense of identity, control, and wellbeing. Topics will include economic development, social and cultural impacts, strategic planning; stakeholder theory, community participation, destination life cycles, marketing and promotion, and social conflict. Case studies will be used to illustrate both the positive and negative aspects of connecting community development to tourism and hospitality.

  • Explain concepts that are integral to hospitality and tourism and community development.
  • Examine issues and planning decisions facing the hospitality and tourism industry and organizations.
  • Describe the tourism and hospitality industries as a system and its relevance to business and destinations.
  • Evaluate relevant information to conduct a strategic and competitive analysis for tourism and hospitality organizations.
  • Design tourism and hospitality business and destination level strategies for communities.
  • Compose a persuasive argument on issues related to tourism and hospitality
