HOSP 400 - Managing Diversity

Description
This course will focus on demographic diversity in today’s global environment. Case students related to national or regional business cultures and differing perspectives on gender, family, age, ethnicity and treatment of the disabled will be examined. Students will examine the effects of diversity on international corporate structure and behavior and demonstrate, through case studies and guest speakers, how proactive businesses have adapted to changes in demographic diversity and gained a competitive advantage.

“Learning Outcomes”
  • Explain interdisciplinary theories of cross-cultural differences in interpersonal relations and communication in the workplace as well as the causes and consequences of workforce exclusion, highlighting groups commonly excluded from work-related opportunities in various countries.
  • Examine the impact of immigration, worker migration, and expatriates on the management of international organizations, both for-profit and non-profit, and understand the ethical basis for diversity management;
  • Compare and contrast research-based knowledge relevant to culture, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and disabilities in assessing, planning, intervening, and acting as leaders with employees and employers in the broader community.
  • Design evidence-based interventions linked to the Inclusive Workplace model including policies, procedures, and programs that facilitate its implementation ethically and professionally.
