Rationale:
In a recent report from the United States Small Business Administration, small businesses are responsible for large portions of jobs in the United States. These businesses are the primary source of economic growth nationally. (U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, 2023)

A certificate in Organizational Management equips students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to succeed in managerial and leadership roles, providing them with a competitive edge in the job market and helping them advance in their careers.
 
OM Certificate Learning Outcomes:
  1. Develop and enhance skills in leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving, thus, making them more effective managers and leaders.
  2. Apply the concepts and theories learned practically, preparing them for the challenges they may face in their professional careers.
  3. Students will build valuable connections and expand their professional network, which can benefit future job prospects and career growth.
  4. Students will learn about self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and effective communication, which can help them improve their interpersonal relationships, both in their personal and professional lives.

OM Certificate Requirements:
Certificate in Organizational Management (COM) requires a minimum of 15 credits, including three (3) semester credit hours which may come from elective course options. Courses are offered in eight (8) week or accelerated five (5) week formats. Participants are required to earn a grade of “C” or higher in all certificate courses.

Upon successful completion of the Organizational Management certificate, completers will:


  1. Understand human behavior in a variety of organizations through communication, motivation, group dynamics, leadership, power, performance management, technology, and organizational design and development.
  2. Build a foundation in interpersonal effectiveness, organizational conflict resolution, talent recruitment, training, labor relations, and legal issues.
  3. Acquire knowledge in focused topic areas, such as change management, self-and-team management, and leadership communication.
